Question From A Reader

“I love the look of heathered yarns, but I'm worried about making something too complex with it. What kinds of projects would you recommend for a beginner using heathered yarn?"

That’s a good point. I'd recommend starting with simpler projects since heathered yarns don't show stitch definition as clearly as solid yarns. This makes them perfect for:

Basic hats
Simple sweaters
Blankets with basic stitch patterns
Easy accessories

Many small businesses and one-person operations make gorgeous hand-dyed yarn! I’ve never seen such beautiful colors and variety.

Remember, if you're using a darker heathered yarn, it's tricky to count stitches. Start with a lighter colored heathered yarn for your first project.

The great news is because of heathered yarns’ two-tone blended appearance, even the simplest stitches will look interesting!

I’ve just updated my post all about heathered yarn.

Worth A Read — The Joy Of Yarn by Marie Greene

“If you’re struggling with an overwhelming yarn stash… This is the book. Marie Greene provides a refreshing approach to organizing and curating your yarn collection. Rather than advocating for strict rules, she teaches you how to rediscover the joy in your stash and shop mindfully.”

Hand-Curated Reads You Can't Miss…

The Transient Nature Of Beauty

's account of sketching through life's travels and losses moved me. She blends her thoughts with memories of a beloved mentor who showed her the value of nature's changing beauty.

This piece reminds me how beauty is fleeting but impactful.

Can Creating Space Spark Creativity?

In ’ delightful note, we meet Bertie, a bear reporting on his human friend Genevieve's 'Space Quest'. It’s not an outer space adventure, but a heartwarming mission to declutter and create mental and physical space.

Calling her effort a “head of steam,” she reminds us that momentum in decluttering can indeed be powerful.

How Painting and Weaving Weave Together

I'm always intrigued by how different mediums intersect, and the CROSSOVER exhibition interview by illuminates this beautifully.

Caroline Derveaux and Sara Kelly come together, merging vibrant painting with weaving. Their work is a conversation between color and texture:

“Colour and shape provide an intuitive outlet that can evoke emotion, memory, and connection within my work. I like to use colours and organic shapes to explore different narratives within my personal expression but also within community projects.”

Capturing The Spirit

And this note of encouragement from was too good not to share:

“It was a beautiful day. Optimism and effort poured through the streets.
Where are they going?
Where are we all going?
Forward.”

Insider Inspiration…

Exploring Architectural Tiny Cabins Across Australia

I adore the concept of tiny homes, and the recent showcase of Australian tiny was lovely! These architectural wonders blend functionality with the rustic charm of secluded locales, providing a perfect escape.

Kate Kolberg's article takes us through various designs, from off-grid retreats to luxurious, compact sanctuaries. Each cabin tells its own story of sustainable living and clever use of space.

The Intriguing Tales Behind Everyday Terms

Ever wondered about the stories behind everyday terms like Sandwich or Jacuzzi? It turns out, many common words are eponyms, named after their inventors or places that inspire them.

I found this fascinating article on the topic.

Hope this issue has sparked your curiosity and creativity!
