INSIDE: satisfying, squishy progress, a festive color palette, keeping things interesting + the rewards and anxieties of tackling a new learning journey.
My latest yarn tasting has been with Muse (Aran weight, hand painted 100% superwash Merino.) The colorway is Glee Speckle and it reminds me of confetti!
The pattern is the Conifer Cap by Alison Griffith and it’s a suggested pattern by Knit Picks for a hank of Muse.
I’m using a US8 5.0mm needle and reached the gauge of 4.5 stitches in 1 inch.
Muse is a lovely yarn to knit with and the thicker weight means my progress is quicker! 😊
There’s no chart reading shenanigans this week due to the cap being knitted in the round. So I’ve been reading every row from right to left.
I love cables. Especially when I don’t have to use a cable needle!
It’s turning out well! I’m looking forward to wearing it on cooler mornings.
I was reflecting on an excellent article by
who discussed ‘the right amount of whelm’ when knitting a pattern.I think my love of cables is just that!
Knitting them keeps my interest and the resulting fabric is appealing. Others are often impressed with my knitting and I appreciate the praise.
I’ve been toying with the idea of writing my first knitting pattern, a baby blanket.
But oh, the anxiety. I don’t know how to create a pattern! But the only way I can learn is to make a start, and I’m equally excited about the new skills I’ll gain.
I’m super motivated, as the final blanket is for a beloved friend’s baby.
I’m thinking colorwork and sections of textured stitches. I love the colorwork ribbing Phil at The Twisted Yarn used in her Fallen Leaves cowl. So in my more confident moments, I have a starting point for my baby blanket design.
As knitters, we have hundreds of textured stitches to choose from. I’m going to flick through some stitch dictionaries for inspiration.
Keeping the blanket design simple is my goal, and I’ve set a deadline. The finished knitted blanket has to be sent to the United States before October!
I’ll keep you posted on my progress for the design in the coming weeks.
Sharing this with you has got it out of my head as just an idea and made me take action. That’s the power of accountability.
“Slowly, slowly, gently, gently,” as they say. Wish me luck!
And another question for you: if you’ve designed a pattern, what was part of the process? If you haven’t created a pattern, what would be your dream project?
